How an MPPEF Grant Goes From Idea to Classroom

The Midland Park Public Education Foundation exists for one reason: to raise money for grants that strengthen our school system for every child in the district. But what does that process actually look like, from idea to impact?

It starts with our teachers and administrators. Throughout the school year, educators are encouraged to think beyond the standard budget and mandated curriculum — dreaming up programs, tools, or classroom equipment that could genuinely expand what their students experience. When an idea takes shape, the teacher submits a formal grant request to our Foundation Grants Committee.

From there, the Committee reviews each request carefully, weighing a central question: does this genuinely enhance and expand the public school curriculum? Every submission is checked against the guidelines set out in MPPEF’s bylaws, and once the Committee is satisfied, the request moves to a full vote of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

Once approved, the real fun begins. Teachers are notified their grant has been funded, and they’re free to purchase the equipment or book the program they proposed — with one condition: the funds have to be used within that academic school year, so students benefit right away rather than waiting.

It’s a simple system, but a meaningful one. Every step, from an idea in a teacher’s lunch break to a fully funded classroom project, is powered entirely by community support — the same 5K runners, vendor fair guests, and local sponsors you’ll meet throughout this site.
